Fishing Rigs, Saltwater Fishing Lure History
The Striper fishing rigs and fishing lures made by Custom Saltwater Lures has an interesting and light-heartedly fun history behind them. I didn't just wake up one morning and decide to make fishing lures, not at all. The rigs and lures we make are actually the product of many years of striper fishing and not being satisfied with what was on the market.
One morning before a charter my Captain and I were doing the routine things to get ready for the day. My Captain pulled out a bag of brand new parachute striper lures and buck tails to rig onto the umbrella rigs. As he was unpacking a new parachute lure, it slipped from his hand and hit the deck. As he bent over to pick up the lure I heard him start to fuss a little bit about how a brand new lure he just spent good money on was chipped, how the paint fell off just from a short drop to the deck. That's about the time when my Captain said "Gadget why don't you come up with a lure that has a better paint job?"
If that lure had not hit the deck, if the powder coat hadn't
chipped, and if my Captain hadn't challenged me to build a better lure Custom
Saltwater Lures may never have been started. That one paint chipped lure was the spark that lit the fire to build a better lure, a lure that was more durable and would last much longer than the average lure. Better durability was one thing we were sure we could manage but it also had to catch fish and not just as good as the average lure, it was imperative that it produced more fish.
The rest is history. After 3 years of development, talking to everyone under the sun, field testing individually on the top charter boats on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, we feel we have a product that is truly remarkable. These lures are not only tough and good looking but the best thing is they catch fish.
Ask any Captain that has fished with one of our striper lures they will agree.
Each lure is hand made to our customer's specs. We stock a minimal amount of inventory because every Captain or angler has their own idea as to what works and
they all seem to have a different opinion or preference on colors and features. Our product line this year is expanding to larger
lures and buck-tail lures. We have also noticed some copy cats out there in some
tackle shops but they can not match the quality of a Custom Saltwater Fishing Lure.
